Living an Exceptional Life
When I first adopted my cat the person working in the adoption center said, "I just want to tell you that because he was born in a toxic waste dump I don't think he'll live as long as other cats." I didn't believe it then and I still don't. Today, my cat is 13 years old and healthier than most cats. He had an accident while running up the stairs last year and had to have a ligament in his knee replaced, but otherwise he is in perfect health. He still plays like a kitten and acts goofy. I imagine he'll live for many more years.
It's so silly for doctors and others to predect how long an animal or a person is going to live. So many factors come into play. So what if my cat was born in a toxic waste dump? If he has good genes, a loving home, and healthy food to eat, the environment he was born in may have no effect. The same goes for people who are given a life sentence due to cancer or other illness. No doctor can predict that. The world is full of exceptions to the rules.
Let those who make the rules live and die by them. For the rest of us, here's to always being the exception.
