Envita Natural Medical Centers of America
I was in Coffee Bean yesterday and got talking to someone about health-related issues. He told me about a doctor in Scottsdale, Arizona who runs the Envita Natural Medical Centers of America. The person in Coffee Bean said a friend of his was cured of terminal colon cancer at the center. I thought I'd let you all know about it in case you're researching possible alternative and integrative treatments for cancer. They also treat other diseases and disorders. I'm going to do some research and find out more about it. If anyone's had any experience with them I'd love to have your comments. I'd also love to hear about other integrative cancer centers with which you might have experience.

Michael Moore - Sicko
Michael Moore is working on a new movie called Sicko. This time his target is the health care industry and he's looking for health care horror stories. I'm sure many of you have had some horrific experiences with insurance companies and HMOs, so here's your chance to tell the world about it. Moore writes on his site:
So, if you'd like me to know what you've been through with your insurance company, or what it's been like to have no insurance at all, or how the hospitals and doctors wouldn't treat you (or if they did, how they sent you into poverty trying to pay their crazy bills) ... if you have been abused in any way by this sick, greedy, grubby system and it has caused you or your loved ones great sorrow and pain, let me know.
Visit MichaelMoore.com to learn more and to send him your story.

A Shout Out to My Grandma
I just want to give a "shout out" to my grandma, who successfully made it through a difficult emergency surgery today! She reads Health Diaries and has really enjoyed reading the diaries here. She's very tough. She lived through the 1918 Spanish flu, nursing family members while she never got sick. While she's recovering from surgery over the next month I just might have to have her recount her experiences with the 1918 epidemic and post it as an article or interview here.
Get well soon, Grandma!

Living off Air - Breatharians
Working on a health site, I read a lot about different health movements and diets. Carnivores, vegetarians, low carbers, raw foodists, pescetarians, fruitarians. There a so many differences in the way people eat, but they all have at least one thing in common: they actually eat. Breatharians, on the other hand, do not. They claim to live off the air and sun. I've read about people who claim not to have eaten anything for years. So is it possible? I personally do not believe it is. People have died while attempting to become breatharians. All I know is that life would not be any fun without food. As someone with a strong Italian-American family food tradition, I might as well be dead if I can't have good food and wine. I'm a pescetarian these days, meaning I eat a mostly vegan diet but I also eat fish on occasion. I look forward to my meals.
If anyone's interested in learning more about the Breatharians here is the Wikipedia entry about them and the link to the Breatharian Society.
Happy eating, whatever you happen to eat!
