OFF PAXIL FINALLY....hopefully through the worst
OMG, 5 weeks going off 10mg a week from 50mg to 0mg of Paxil. Paxil that I'd been on at least 20mg for 7 years. The doc said I'd feel lousy. But this is all worth it to go on new miracle drug CYmbalta.
LOUSY:
That's an understatement. These past 2 weeks I've been so dizzy, light headed, full of pain and with no energy.....and a constant ringing in my ears....All the symptoms I had in the beginning before I got relief. Oh yeah sleep way off, and anxiety through the roof. I'm sleeping and spending the day with a tissue box again.
Today is the first day of the rest of my life:
I'm hoping.....cause these last 5 weeks stunk! This morning I took my first dose of 30mg Cymbalta. I realize it'll probably take it the week to actually help, since my Psych. wanted to see me 1 week into it (next Friday). So for now I'm couch or bed -bound, housebound, just plain nuts at times, crying for no reason or a stupid reason.
Last night I got up around 4am to go to the bathroom and when I closed the door to the little toilet room in the bathroom, the turn spun my head out and while the toilet takes up 60% of the space and you'd think I could grab either wall and land on the toilet....nope, on the floor, half next to it half in the legroom. I think my spirit and perhaps my rump are bruised.
Sooooooooo, sick and tired of this. Did I say I can do 5 weeks if it will end up for the better??? I'm not made of that strong a stuff anymore!!!!! Although I did make it through the 5 weeks. God help me, please let the cymbalta start working soooooooon.
Hugs, Judy

I started Cymbalta on May 2, I still have not noticed any major changes, I am still in a lot of pain. I was curious how your are doing on it? I also take Nurontin and Zanaflex at night. Laurie

Hi Laurie,
Thx for the message. So we started the cymbalta about the same time. Did you start with 30 & go to a higher dosage? I take the cymbalta with a flexeril in the am. Then I take vicodin as needed for severe pain (I've come to handle the 5-7 range & only take the vicodin for the 8-13 on a scale of 10). At night I take some, klonopin, & 1200mg neurontin. I believe the neurontin at this dosage does help alot with my sleep.
I'm climbing out of the hole of paxil withdrawal, so each day does seem better to me lately, finally. Hopefully, this cymbalta will help alot.
Stay in touch!
Hugs, Judy

I was also on cymbalata. I had a month of greatness, then declining to worse than before. Doc tapered me off, now 3wks and counting I am still having horrible withdrawals from it. Pleas check out www.focusrecovery.com then click on message boards. Cymbalta is starting to be known as the other effexer, but worse, drug.

******URGENT*******
I have been searching and communicating in online chat forums of all sorts on this subject. I read so many desperate postings about people who have suffered and continue to suffer because of their meds.
There are SERIOUS side effects that people need to be aware BEFORE they get on these meds. That does not include being given an explanation in their medication box that consists of a 4-font. And one should not need a PhD to read this information. (I was getting my Ph.D. in a social science the first time I was prescribed these things. When I asked my doctor some technical scientific information about the meds, he didn’t know and had to look it up. I marveled at his lack of instant knowledge about this. But I should have been even more suspicious when he had a hard time reading the results that the company of the medication had published).
Also, there seems to be a common theme in that people complain that their doctor's overlooked this or that. For example, why would a doctor prescribe a depression meds to a recovering alcoholic, especially without doing blood work or an ultra sound, when such prescriptions can further irritate or cause liver damage, some of which is irreversible? Then, there can be a high probability of alcohol relapse if the drugs make symptoms worse!!!
I do not mean to belittle these drugs. They must work for some because I have read quite a few success stories. But, FAR TOO MANY people are suffering, especially when they try to stop taking antidepressant meds. My ass if are not habit forming. Otherwise, why the withdrawals?!?!?
Join me in the fight to make people, and organizations, aware of your story. I am putting together our stories for others like us and for those people who need to read them (like doctors, psychiatrists, etc.)
I am not here for profit. I am not here to make money. I can keep you name anonymous, or you can make up a handle (madashell, depressedinphoenix, helpmeinca, etc.) I just feel so angry that I think it is time our voices and complications are shared and heard! And, if I need to work around the clock to be the ambassador of our struggles then so be it!!!

My name is Dorothy. About a
month ago, my doctor cut me
down on paxil to 30 mg., then
to 20 mg. and then to 15 mg.
He started me on 30 mg. of
cymbalta along with the
tapering off of the paxil.
I've tapered off of the
paxil and I've been on 60 mg.
of cymbalta for 5 days and
I'm having side effects like
crying spells, panic, fatigue,
dissiness, weakness around
my heart, some chest pain,
blood pressure going up and
feelings of like I'm just
going to fall over and die.
Has anybody else had these
side effects? My doctor told
me today on the phone that
I could stop the cymbalta
if I wanted to and go back
on paxil 15 mg. for a week
and then 30 mg. till I see
him in June. Please let
me know if you think I should
stay on the cymbalta or go
back on the paxil.
Thank you.
Dorothy

Just today I was put on 20mg of Paxil to help with my fms pain and also as a preventative for migraines. Does it work? I see so many of you talking about going off Paxil and on Cymbalta. I'm so confused. Thanks & hugs to all!
