Homemade Mayonnaise
I've been working with Lisa on phenolics allergies. I can't really explain it well so here is a site that talks about it.
"Over the last decade, important breakthroughs have occurred in the identification and treatment of allergies. Dr. Robert Gardner, Ph.D. professor of nutrition at Brigham Young University (Provo, Utah), discovered that specific key chemical agents cause allergic reactions including hayfever. These naturally occurring chemical agents called "phenolic" (aromatic) compounds, are regularly found throughout our environment in thousands of items including most foods, pollen and chemicals."
I cleared them on the machine a few weeks ago but today I tested as still having a problem. So we tested all the individual phenolics listed on the machine and I was still allergic to nineteen of them. Cleared them and then had an acupuncture treatment.
Lifestream sent us a new cholesterol monitor! I did it again and it was 210. So I went from 193 on the old machine to 231 at the lab to 210 on the new machine. At least that's a little closer. I think the diet may have brought it down some more and they say you can have a 20 point discrepancy.
I made some homemade mayonnaise yesterday. Really good! 1 organic egg, 1 1/4 c. olive oil, 2 1/2 T. apple cider vinegar, 1/2 t. dry mustard, and 1/2 t. sea salt.
Blend the egg, vinegar, spices, and 2 T. of oil for a few seconds.
Without turning off the blender or food processor, slowly pour in the remaining oil. As soon as it is mixed in, turn off the blender and transfer the mayonnaise into a container.
The only problem is the cost of olive oil and it only lasts 4 or 5 days because of the raw egg. Next time I'm going to just make half of the recipe.

No, I don't think it's dangerous if you use organic eggs. I wouldn't do it with non-organic. A lot of people eat raw eggs every day for health reasons. (I think in most states you can't use raw eggs in restaurants anymore because of salmonella. I know we used to have them in caesar salad when we were out but they can't serve it that way anymore.)
Do either of you know what kind of mayonnaise is better for treat the lice? My little girl came home infected and this is the first I hear about mayonnaise. Should I makes my own or just use Best Foods?
After getting a mention of mayonnaise for lice and then another question, I had to google it and found a pretty good site that talks about it: http://www.lacetoleather.com/ridlice.html. "Lice can be killed quickly, easily, cheaply and safely with mayonnaise. Simply get a new jar of mayonnaise (not Miracle Whip) from your kitchen shelf or at the grocery store. (Don’t grab one from the refrigerator, as it will be way too cold.) Grab a handful (or several) and cover all of you child’s hair, being sure to get behind the ears and down the neck a little. You can cover this with a plastic shower cap to keep the mayonnaise from dripping or getting onto your furniture. Leave the mayonnaise on for two hours to smother the lice and developed eggs. Then, remove the shower cap and throw it away, both of you wash your hands good with soap, and shampoo the hair thoroughly. It may take two or more shampoos to get the hair clean.
You can use Vaseline if you don't have any mayonnaise. The only way to remove Vaseline from hair is to saturate the hair in baby oil, rub in through the hair completely, then squeeze out as much as you can. Then wash the hair three times with Dawn dish soap and hot water (not hot enough to burn!), each time leaving the dish soap on for a few minutes to allow it to work.
Vaseline can be left on overnight if you wish, but this is not safe with mayonnaise because it turns poisonous when it is not refrigerated. Your child may scratch his head while sleeping and then put his fingers in his mouth." You will need to go to the above site to read what to do after this to get rid of the nits. Good luck! I'm so glad I never had to deal with this!!
I wonder why Miracle Whip no good?
Don't know. I just read use only 100% real mayonnaise, not lite, low-fat or salad dressing only mayonnaise.
Thank you so much Elizabeth. I just went to the A&P and bought some Hellman's Mayo. It's not lite. My poor little girl just found out just has to have a head full of mayonnaise but I asked her what do you prefer, a head full of lice? She started to cry. Do you think this N.E.A.T. thing could cure something like lice? That would be interesting to try.

Isn't home made mayonaise dangerous because of the raw eggs? You can get salmonella from that, you know. Also, did you know people use mayonnaise to treat head lice? Yick!
