Jonathan Hair Products
I watched Blow Out all season and have to admit I got hooked. I would watch it every Tuesday night. My husband would just roll his eyes on the way out the door to play poker with the guys. LOL Not exactly his viewing choice for an evening!
So after hearing Jonathan talk about his new products and seeing all the problems and history of development, I decided I would try them. Went to QVC, but by the time I got there they were all sold out. So I remembered he was also with Sephora and I went there. Most of the products were still available and it actually was cheaper with them. You only have to order one bottle and if you order enough (which is easy) the shipping is free.
I ordered Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner, the Glossing Cream, Redo Freshen-Up Mist, and Finish Hold. I did debate over this for awhile because of the allergy problems. I had heard them talk about botanicals which was not a good sign. I still have a lot of outdoor allergies and I still take anything new I buy in to test with Lisa.
The products came. I was impatient. I thought I could try the hairspray before testing it. What could it hurt? So I sprayed some on my hair. An hour later I was in bad shape!! Head itching, nose running down my face. I couldn't believe it! I actually had to go wash my hair! I hadn't had a reaction like that in a long time.
The ingredients on some of the bottles are practically unreadable, even with a magnifying glass, so I went to Sephora where you can get a list. There are a LOT of botanicals, flowers etc. in these products. I narrowed it down to probably gardenia in the Finish Hold and the Redo. After you've cleared so many things it gets a lot easier to look at a list and see what could be causing a problem.
So the next day I put samples in my little bottles and took them in to test. By the way if you're doing NAET it really helps to buy some little glass vials to take in for testing. It's so much easier than hauling all the products in, opening them up, getting it all over you etc. I buy mine in different sizes here. Not expensive. Just make sure you wash them well before reusing.
We blind tested the products. One was bad. I looked down and sure enough it was the hairspray. Before I went I had stopped at the nursery and picked up a gardenia flower. It was also bad. So we cleared gardenia, plus flowers, pollen, etc. on the MSAS machine. Six minutes. Then tested the bad vial and my arm was like a rock. (Before it had come crashing down.) No longer allergic.
You know, it absolutely amazes me every time. I could clear an allergy the regular way in about 25 hours. Now I can clear one in six minutes on the machine. I know most people will never believe this. All I can say is you have to see and feel it yourself.
The Redo also had gardenia in it but I was not allergic. It is possible it could have been something in addition to gardenia that cleared on the machine but I'll never know. Gardenia was farther down the list in the Redo so just must have been not as concentrated. So now I actually get to use the products! After all this, I hope I like them. It sure will be a good test when I spray that hairspray on my head again. I'll let you know!
UPDATE: 8/06
Jonathan's products are pretty good! The Moisturizing Shampoo is great and so is the Conditioner. It's heavy enough to get through the tangles in my hair which believe me is saying a lot. But it doesn't weigh down my hair or make it look greasy.
No problems with the allergy to Finish Hold now, but this is a heavy duty spray. I'll keep it but will only use if I have to go to a barbecue in gale force winds!! LOL Actually you can spray it and then brush through and you hair holds well. I just usually don't use something with that much hold. And if you don't brush through it you certainly wouldn't want anyone to touch your hair.
The Glossing Cream is nice, and I haven't really tried the Redo Freshen-Up Mist yet. Haven't needed it. I guess the famous product is the Dirt, but I have no interest in wanting my hair to look like I washed it the day before. I do want to try one of his gels, maybe the Create Motion. I need a good one.
I saw his reunion show where they mentioned his bottles won an award. They are nice looking, but as I mentioned before, you can't read the ingredients on some of them. (If the contents of the bottle is clear then you can read it.) And good luck trying to squeeze the conditioner out of the bottle without taking off the lid. It's too thick to do it.
All in all, pretty good products. Just be very careful if you have allergies!
UPDATE 9/9
I purchased the Create Motion Gel and like it a lot. I have given up on the conditioner and won't reorder. Even though it's very thick I still have a hard time getting a comb through my hair after I use it. I've gone back to Neutrogena Triple Moisture which is the best conditioner I've ever used. I can comb my hair and it doesn't weigh it down. Don't know why I ever switched. Guess there is always the allure of finding something "better". But if you don't have the "comb through" problem Jonathan's conditioner could be very good. Still using the moisturizing shampoo and the glossing cream.

Hmmmmmmm. Don't know why I'm responding to this. Do you always call people names? Or just online where you think you're anonymous.
Why are you so angry? Did you design the bottles or make the products?
If you had read my post you would have seen that I said I shouldn't have used it before testing and that it was my fault. I was impatient. I never said it was the products fault. I am no longer allergic to the spray.
When you have a white product like the conditioner or the glossing cream in those bottles you cannot read the ingredients, even with a magnifying glass. You can read them on the shampoo, spray and Redo. That is a fact.
My allergist doesn't sell products and I'll buy and comment on anything I want without your advise.
I also liked the shampoo and conditioner and overall think the products are good. Your comment baffles me. And by the way,...nitwit is one word.
I have to laugh! My husband is actually the one in this house who is addicted to Blow Out! He likes Jonathan's "work ethics", and thinks he runs a "good business". Glad you are liking the products, I havent tried them yet, because I cant find the ones I want to try. Soooo, I read you have panic disorder, I have it too. How long have you had it? Ive been on meds for 13 years! At one point, I didnt even leave my house for almost a year. But hey, Im 80% 'normal' now! Whatever the hell 'normal' is! LOL ... take care! Deb
yes, the conditioner IS a problem. even if i take the cover off and squeeze it doesnt move! It shouldnt be that difficult. banging it and squeezing it at least 5 times.....and the packaging won an award?
Do you know if Jonathan products are tested on animals?? I don't have an allergy problem, but I do have a problem with animal testing ... that being said, I'd love to try his products, but can't seem to find his animal testing policy anywhere.
Help if you can - thanks
Kari~ I wasn't sure so I emailed Sephora and asked them. They said Jonathan does not test on animals and most of the products are also vegan.
Has anyone tried the Dirt product? How does it work?
My wife also tried several Jonathan products after watching Blow Out. she recently wrote a similar review of several products including Dirt and the shampoo and conditioners.
Who cares how the products work just wash your hair and dream of Jonathan and let your imagination take you away!!! Just look at him. lol
My boyfriend wants to fly out LA and bring him back to our house just to keep me quiet!! WOOOOOW how nice would that be ladies.......... lol
I'm from Australia, and have just recently discovered "Jonathan" and his products!..How HOT is this?..I work in television, so i'm always obsesed with how i look ALL THE TIME!...I am desperately trying to get a hold of his products, but can't find where to order them ANYWHERE!..Even my stylist won't help me!(Jelous i think...lol)..can someone please point me in the right direction? cheers!
You can get his products at Sephora.com or QVC.com.
Why is this the worst conditioner ever? I have never had such problems combing through my hair. I'm probably doing more damage using these products. I think I'm going to return them all. Very disappointed. The bottle says that it's tested on celebrities. That's better than testing on animals.
I had been wanting to change shampoos and conditioners because I thought that my current ones weighed down my hair after so much use. I was anxious to try the Jonathan products so when QVC had a special on this volumizing shampoo and conditioner, I ordered them. The shampoo is kind of gooey and you have to use a lot of it and a lot of water in order to get an adequate lather. The conditioner is just about the same - you have to use a lot. But the most distressing thing is that, afterwards, I can't get a comb thru my shoulder-length hair. It is so tangled! Now, I did get compliments on how it looked after I shampooed it, but after using the product 3 times, I now have determined that it still is not worth the de-tangling efforts. Luckily, QVC takes back the products within 30 days.
I do think the shampoo is pretty good but it took forever to rinse out. I'm not using any of his products anymore. Neutrogena Triple Moisture Conditioner is still the best conditioner I've ever used. Just a little bit and I can actually get a comb through my hair.
You need to try Pureology. I am a hairstylist and it is the absolute BEST product I have ever used. 100% vegan, NO WATER in shampoo or conditioner(super concentrated). No sodium (sodium strips color) and no sulfate. My clients who use Pureology have the most radiant color!!! NO FADING!! I only use and sell Pureology, nothing compares!!!!
I have recently become a huge fan of the products. I've used the "add moisture" shampoo & conditioner. It is wonderful. I agree the conditioner is a lttle tough to get out of the bottle but remove the whole top and squeeze it and it works!! :)
The "anti frizz& volumizing product" is WONDERFUL TOO! I have very FINE blonde hair & it has done WONDERS for me. No other volumizing shampoo conditioner moose, gel I've tried it ALL has worked the way THIS does! And it doesn't weigh my hair whatsoever! It's wonderful!!!!
I am addicted to Blow Out and watch it every chance I get. I was at the mall yesterday and stopped in one of the salon and asked if they carried Jonathan hair products and of course she said no. I then thought about on line shopping and there it is. I will probably order the hair product dirt very soon.
I am from Costa Rica and I also watch Blow Out. I want to get the Jonathan products but I think they dont sell it here. How can I get them?
I have very fine hair with no body. His body building mouse is fabulous. I have tried probably every product on the market from stuff you buy at the drug store to expensive salon products. It is the only one that feels clean with no build up and gives me body all day long. I love it.
I used the Moisturizing Shampoo again this morning and realized it does make a difference. My hair was much softer. So I'm going to use it on a regular basis now and I ordered some more from Sephora. If you order from QVC you can't get just the shampoo. You have to get the shampoo and conditioner duo.
I use pureology, it's the BEST product I have ever used, but it's kind of expensive; but hey, when you're paying a lot to color and style your hair, Product is Key! Jonathan is Hot, but I'd prefer to mute the T.V. when I watch the show. I have never seen such a spaz!
I have only tried Dirt but I love it!!!!!!!!! I have tried alot of other putties and styling gels but this is the very best product I have ever used and it lasted forever. I will never use anything else to style my hair with.
Lets have Johnathans' Products more easier to buy....!!! Why not Major Drug stores...???? Its so hard for people to buy I either have to drive 25 miles or order on line dont have the time but love the products......I did buy from COSTCO..once.....
Has anyone used Dirt yet ?
It might sound dumb but do you use it like a hair gel or on next day hair ?
He made Dirt because his clients always said they like their hair better the second day after washing. So if you like that look try it. Personally I like mine the day I wash it better. LOL
I have been using Dirt for about a week and I "love" it.
I have short hair and I like to wear it a little messy. You would think short hair wouldn't be a problem to do something with but it's much harder to work with then longer hair. I have tried so many products to get the look I want and they're either to stiff, greasy or to heavy and my hair goes flat. This product really is great. It puffs your hair up and gives it great fullness and it stays like that. I haven't had it go flat yet and believe me, that's a big deal for my thin hair.
Thank you Jonathan, You have a winner here.

Are you a nit wit?? Why would anyone with such bad allergies put anything on their bodies without testing it first? And how exactly is that the product's fault?? I bought the same products and unless you have a serious eye defect, the ingredients listed are the same size as on other brands' bottles. I think you should stick to the stuff your allergist sells and rate them. I thought the shampoo and conditioner worked great on my hair.
