Breast Cancer Patient Wins Right to Herceptin Treatment

A breast cancer patient yesterday won her battle to receive a potentially life-saving drug from the NHS.

North Stoke Primary Care Trust agreed to prescribe Elaine Barber the drug Herceptin after comments from Patricia Hewitt, the Health Secretary, and a public outcry. But a leading medical journal warned against hailing the drug a "miracle cure" for breast cancer. (scotsman.com)

Alcohol May Raise HRT Breast Cancer Risk

Women taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT) should avoid drinking alcohol because it can raise their risk of developing the most common kind of breast cancer, Swedish scientists said on Tuesday. (Reuters)
