Support Groups are a Wonderful Thing/God Works in Mysterious Ways
Last night I was forced to show up for work even though I was barely walking and ready to pass out from nausea and fatigue. I tried in vain to set up the bar (I work at Embassy Suites in the complimentary bar)but it was just too much to even lift a bottle. Finally I begged my boss to let me go. I felt really bad because we had a huge Elks convention and I knew it was going to be busy.
When I got home I tok a nap and felt a little better. So I decided to attend a support group with my parents. Even though I was the youngest person there, I felt like I was amoung friends. It was so good to share my feelings abut going to chemo today. Much as I hate to sound crude, there is always someone there who seems worse off than you.
The group meets on my workdays, so I do not know when I will go again. Hopefully my regular support group will start again in the fall.
BTW, I had a talk with my boss and asked him to please take me seriously the next time that I say that I am too ill to work. After all, I think that I have called in once during the last year.

It's amazing how the world can be falling apart and yet your job can look at you and say "hey get here on time, have a smile on your face and don't even think about calling in." You've already moved on Michelle and I'm sorry I didn't get to know your wonderful spirit more. God Bless and embrace you warmly from now on. -ijellorca

Dear Sweet Michelle,I'm glad you have your parents' support and the support group. I don't know how young you are (at least 21 to work at the bar) or what your chemo treatment is for, but I have seen friends suffer from chemo and my heart goes out to you.I think Embassy Suites is a big enough employer that they have to follow the Family leave act and should have to let you go when you are ill and not jeopardize your job. Maybe you could talk to someone in personnel.I understand being sick and going to work and trying and just having to leave. I'll soon be contributing under My Life with Fibromyalgia. I was a partner in a CPA firm on my way to the top of my career and planning to take over the business at 40...then FMS struck and for 9 months I tried to work and made it there about 1/3 of the usual hours. After 9 mos I was told to quit or I wouldn't get any better.I look forward to checking in here with you and seeing how you are doing.Hugs and Blessings, Judy in AZ
