Boffins Cooking Up Self-Timing Eggs

The enterprising folks at the
British Egg Information Service are working on the self-timing egg. The eggs will have indicators on the shells to let you know when they're ready. Cartons will be labelled soft, medium, or hard-boiled and shoppers will buy depending on the kind of egg they want.

Using the latest heat sensitive technology, Lion Quality egg producers tasked boffins to create a foolproof way to guarantee the yolk comes out the way you want it - soft, medium or hard boiled - every time. Carrying a special label, the egg goes into your pan as normal and when it is perfectly cooked the Lion logo appears as if by magic confirming your chosen preference.

Wait, what's a boffin??? It sounds like some kind of monkey.

Mardi Gras Jambalaya, kicked up mashed potatoes with bacon, green beans with garlic, rice pudding, and mixed fruit will be sampled by the astronauts on Aug. 10 while Lagasse chats with them via satellite, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration reported.

Curry and Onions May Shrink Polyps

I'm allergic to curry. Just a faint whiff of it wafting out of a kitchen makes my stomach cramp. So when I read story after story about how good it is for you, I feel sad that I must live a curry-free existence. Past studies have shown that curry may slow down the effects of Alzheimer's and dementia. The latest study demonstrates that curry shrinks colon polyps:

In the study, patients with pre-cancerous polyps in the colon who took a pill containing a combination of curcumin, which is found in the curry spice turmeric, and quercetin, an antioxidant found in onions, experienced a marked reduction in both the size and number of polyps.

I guess I'll just have to eat lots of onions and hope for the best!
