how to crush garlic
There's a helpful article in the Detroit Free Press on how to crush garlic. Besides using a garlic press, the article offers the following solutions:

"The Best Kitchen Quick Tips" by the editors at Cook's Illustrated magazine (Boston Common Press, $19.95) offers two methods: Take a wooden spoon and cover the clove with the concave side. Press down hard on the spoon.

Or, use the bottom of an unopened can (soup, etc.). Put the clove on the work surface and give it a good whack. (full article)

I usually just chop my garlic but I like the idea of whacking it with a can. What better way to release the frustrations of the day?
