Oregano means "joy of the mountain" and is derived from the Greek oras, meaning "mountains," and ganos, meaning "joy".
In Greek mythology, Aphrodite created oregano as a symbol of happiness.
The Greeks placed oregano on graves to help spirits find happiness in death.
So does oregano really make you happier? Though there's no scientific research to back it up, many people report that oil of oregano eases symptoms of depression and anxiety, so there may indeed be something to this herb's uplifting properties.
