Vegan Hostess Cupcakes

I am not a vegan (I eat seafood and eggs), but I don't eat dairy products so I face a lot of the same eating/cooking challenges that vegans do.

I'm also not ashamed to admit that one of my favorite treats from childhood were Hostess cupcakes. So when I saw a post at the Accidental Hedonist about vegan Hostess cupcakes, I was intrigued.

The author found the recipe in an article in the New York Times. The recipe is from a book called "Vegan with a Vengeance" by Isa Chandra Moskowitz

These cupcakes aren't exactly "health food" since they contain sugar and probably a lot of fat (from the vegan margarine and shortening) but they look damn good! The pictures look fantastic and very much like the "real thing."

They would make a great treat for a kid's birthday party - or an adult's!

Boy does that sound good. I looooove Hostess Cup Cakes but don't ever buy them anymore for health reasons.
