Kidney Disease

Kidney diseases and conditions affect millions of people every year. Diabetes is the leading cause of chronic kidney disease. According the the National Kidney Foundation, there are more than 80,000 people waiting for a kidney transplant. Because kidney disease is best treated if discovered early and because it can affect anyone regardless of age or race, it is important to learn as much as we can about these hardworking but vulnerable organs.

Asparagus is a natural diuretic and detoxifier. Eating it can help the kidneys to flush out wastes by producing more urine. However, because the asparagus does have such a powerful effect on the kidneys, it should be eaten in moderation and with the approval of a doctor if one's kidney's are inflamed or infected. Asparagus is also a great source of folic acid, fiber, potassium, vitamin B6, and thiamin.
