Bird Flu Detected in Nigerian Chicken

The deadly H5N1 strain of the bird flu virus has been detected on a commercial chicken farm in Nigeria -- the first reported outbreak in Africa, the World Organization for Animal Health said Wednesday.

International health officials called for help to prevent the disease from spreading across the world's poorest continent, where governments are ill-equipped to combat it. (Washington Post)
