Swine Flu Vaccine to Be Fast-Tracked in Europe

In Europe, safety testing for the swine flu vaccine will be fast-tracked so people can receive the shots sooner.

Many experts claim there is no need for extensive testing because the shot is not that much different from the seasonal flu shot that is given every year.

European officials will not know if the new vaccine causes any side effects until millions of people get the shots. They say the benefit of saving lives is worth the gamble.

Don't they mean "millions of guinea pigs"?

Thankfully, there are experts out there who are questioning the lack of safety testing.

"I can't see any possible excuse to not test it for safety before it's given to anyone," said George Annas, a bioethics expert at Boston University.
