What Makes a Good Therapist for DID?

While a client has to do a great deal of the work in the therapy process, there are a lot of thoughts on what a therapist can do to be helpful in therapy. Here are some things that the members of A Mind's Journey consider to make good therapists:

Our T has stuck with us for years. ...a lot of difficulties and she's never given up on us...a lot of obstacles and she's always worked with us to find a way around them.. she's been willing to learn along with us .

incredible patience....she is kind to everyone

firm, direct, yet gentle

she is good about checking in with parts that she hasnt spoken to in a long time

gives you insight but lets you think for yourself

A good one is one who can earn our trust because it's hard to trust anyone. It takes a lot of patience to work with DID people.
