Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is an autoimmune disease that causes extreme, unrelenting fatigue that does not respond to rest. Like most autoimmune diseases, it is much more common in women than it is in men. The CDC estimates that up to 500,000 people in the United States may have CFS, but actual numbers are not known since there is no test for it.
