Diabetes is chronic disease that affects millions of people worldwide. According to the CDC, 6.3% of the United States population is affected. There are two types of diabetes. In Type I, which usually begins in childhood or adolescence, the body does not produce insulin. In Type II, or adult-onset diabetes, the body produces insulin but is unable to properly use it. In both cases, these problems with insulin lead to high blood sugar and consequent serious health problems if the disease is not managed.
