Cabbage can be prepared in several different ways and one of the easiest and fastest ways to cook cabbage is by boiling it. Here’s how to boil cabbage in four easy steps.
1. Add water to a large pot, put it over high heat and bring the water to a boil.
2. While the water is heating, prepare the cabbage by washing it and chop it into large wedges. You can chop a medium sized cabbage into 6 wedges or even smaller than that depending on how you will be using the cabbage.
3. Put the cabbage into the boiling water and allow it to boil until the cabbage has reached the tenderness that you want. If you are cooking wedges or bigger chunks it will take about 10 minutes, but if you are using shredded cabbage then it will only be about 3 to 5 minutes of cooking time.
4. Remove the cabbage from the water by dumping the pot into a colander, or spoon the cabbage pieces out with a spoon. Let it drain before serving.
Note: If you like, you can add herbs or spices to the water for flavoring. But, many people simply boil the cabbage plain and then add it to a dish that is already seasoned.
