Many recipes call for shredded cabbage, but if you don’t know how to shred cabbage the right way, you may make a bigger mess than you originally planned on. Follow these steps for easy shredded cabbage.
1. Prepare the cabbage by washing it and removing a few of the outer leaves.
2. Chop the cabbage head down the middle of the heart so that you have two even halves. Next, chop each half in half again so that you have 4 quarters.
3. Cut out the heart of the cabbage and chop each quarter one at a time. Lay the quarter flat on the chopping board and make small slices until the entire piece is chopped.
4. Separate the cabbage pieces with your hands as you are putting the chopped cabbage into the bowl.
Note: If you have a food processor, you can make finely chopped cabbage in minutes. Simply run the cabbage chunks through the processor and let the machine do the work for you! A food processor will not chop as evenly as you can do it by hand, but it is a much faster option if you don’t care about evenly shredded cabbage.
