Phobias affect millions of people worldwide. They are classified as an anxiety disorder. When a person is forced to confront his or her phobia, he or she may experience anxiety, stress, and panic attacks. For this reason, people may go to extreme lengths to avoid the objects of their phobias.
There are as many phobias as there are situations, animals, and objects in the world. For example, a person may have a fear of France or French people (Francophobia) while many people consider France to be an enjoyable country in which to live or visit. Another person may have a fear of good news (Euphobia) while to most people good news is a positive experience.
