Sybil movie remake

I don't know how many people saw it, but the remake of the original "Sybil" movie was on CBS tonight.

I watched it and thought it was okay. Could have been done better but it CERTAINLY could have been a lot worse! I thought the girl was trying to be too much like Sally Field. But she did well. That's a hard role to play and Sally Field's shoes are big ones to fill with that role, you know? I certainly wouldn't want to do it! I'm sure it must have been emotionally exhausting. On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it a 5. The original Sybil is one of my favorite movies and nothing could ever do it justice.

It was hard for us to watch. Reminded me and Mae so much of the old Sybil... and brought up many triggers of memories from the past, and brought of many memories of therapy sessions with our old therapist (for instance, seeing "Ruthie" and "Peggy" talking with the therapist, coloring on the floor like we used to with Sharon, crying, etc) .... I was very switchy and spaced out. Mae wanted Sharon so bad and so did I, and we were just missing her so much that it was hard to watch the movie. Ended up crying pretty hard at some points. There's just this ache that doesn't go away. I don't want to go into it anymore... I want to just get over it, and that won't happen if I keep talking about it. I just wish I could forget.

I didn't really like the movie all that much. I even muted it at one point to finish some school work. It was not at all like I expected. Acting was so-so and yeah, did remind me of sessions with my T with the sitting on the floor coloring. I wonder if my T watched it. I will ask her tomorrow. But for some reason, it didn't trigger me, hold my interest or anything. I did relate to her loss of time. Opening the door and dinner was over. Been there that's for sure.

i saw most of the movie and I agree with you, she was trying very hard to play Sally Field.
but A for effort.
It made me sad too, reminded me of the loneliness and the ache of DID, despite there being many.
I've been reading and I'm sorry about Sharon. You heal day by day and then you look back, and you see that it was YOU and the others who were able to sit with the problem. That is strength. Keep going through the motions. I wish you the very best.

I've been reading your blog for the last two days, Pilgrim (and everybody :-).
God bless your heart. You're an amazing person---so loving and truly in service to what's best and good. Much love and many prayers for you! Keep doing an amazing job!

I saw the movie and was very disappointed. Admittedly I'm sure I missed some of it. But I didn't think the acting was all that great; kind of over the top with all the switches. But I guess if you're making a movie for people who don't know much about DID then you have to. I'm going to watch it again and see if I still feel the same way as I do now. I think the movie felt more like someone trying to act out MPD/DID and not quite making it.

She did the voices pretty well, but something was missing for me.

No, I haven't seen it yet! I'll have to check it out. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll find it on youtube. Oh how I love you Youtube. I had no idea it was ever even on. What good promotion, huh? By the way, I truly love your blog!

Why would you even try to re-make this movie. She totally bit Sally Field's Sybil...no one is or ever will be as good. I hated every second of this movie...the few seconds I could stand to watch

I really would like to see the older version with Sally Fields again. She was outstanding in this film. I don't know if anyone can even come close to her performance in this role. How can I purchase a copy of the original version with Ms. Field?

Hello,

Although I only saw the 1976 version of Sybil played by Sally Field, I still remember it vibrantly because it is above the rest in unforgettable films. I agree it is almost impossible to match Sally Field. However, I will say that with it being cut from a 4-hour movie to a 2-hour movie, was the real injustice and not the performance of Tammy or the rest. That being said, I think Tammy did an excellent job, although I was not as convinced with the other cast. I do believe in today's fast paced technological generation, a 1976 movie doesn't appeal to the new generations... (they don't know what they are missing) so maybe that is a good reason for the remake. Although it did not come close to the original, mostly due to the time frame, I thought it was still good. I just hope it compells others to watch the original film. R.I.P. Dear Shirley and may the heavens be yours.

Hello. It really triggered me to watch the movie too...i really enjoyed it tho, it made my heart hurt as well. Im just begining my journey with mpd... and its hard. Emmi cried during the movie.
