Everyone who's ever been to the ophthalmologist knows what it's like to have very dilated pupils.

Dilation can also occur with recreational drug and alcohol as with some prescription drugs.

Some people have a genetic tendency toward larger pupils and in some cases this can be liked to issues with the autonomic nervous system. Sometimes dilated pupils can be a sign of a neurological problem or other underlying disorder.
